🌍 Use of Geographic Naming in Domains & Social Media

At Prison Island, we’re proud of our fast-growing, global franchise family. With teams operating in so many exciting locations, it’s more important than ever that we keep our brand clear and consistent — especially when it comes to naming in domain names and social media accounts.

This guide is here to help you confidently represent Prison Island in your local market, while avoiding confusion or misrepresentation of the brand on a national or global level.

✅ DO: Use clear local identifiers

Always include your city or specific location in your online presence.

Examples of what’s great:

  • Domain names:
    prisonislandberlin.com, prisonisland-bordeaux.fr, prisonisland-gothenburg.se
  • Social media accounts:
@prisonislandhelsinki, Prison Island Madrid, Prison Island Malmö

This helps players, media and partners clearly understand where your experience is located — and helps avoid confusion with other locations or the brand as a whole.

❌ DON’T: Use national or regional names that imply wider coverage

Refrain from using country names, regional identifiers or generic/global terms that could be interpreted as representing the entire brand in a country or region.

Examples to avoid:

  • prisonisland.de (sounds like all of Germany)
  • @prisonislandspain (implies all of Spain)
  • playprisonisland.com (could be mistaken for an official international site)
  • Prison Island UAE (covers multiple cities, may exclude others)

These can unintentionally confuse guests, media, and partners — and potentially impact brand trust.

✅ EXCEPTION: If you hold national rights

If you are a master franchisee with exclusive rights for an entire country, then you are permitted to use national-level naming in both domain names and social channels.

In these cases, you may use:

  • prisonisland.ae
  • @prisonislandportugal
  • prisonisland.fr

…provided that it reflects your full contractual rights.

This exception applies only if you have contracted exclusive national development rights as defined in your franchise agreement.

📄 As stated in your franchise agreement

Your franchise agreement clearly states that the Franchisor, Prison Island AB, is responsible for both a central international website and country website. Use of the Prison Island brand on a national or international level without prior written approval is not allowed unless explicitly granted.

If you are unsure whether this applies to you, just reach out to our team.

🤔 Why does this matter?

Using the correct geographic level is not just about naming — it protects:

  • 🔐 Brand clarity — so customers know where to find you (and only you)
  • 🌐 Digital discoverability — so local SEO works in your favor
  • 🧭 Fairness — so no one appears to represent more than their location
  • 🧱 Growth readiness — so we can keep expanding into new cities and countries without friction

🗣️ Have ideas for national or global representation?

We love that! If you have thoughts on how to grow Prison Island in your region — like a shared website for your country, or social media collaboration — just let us know. We’re always open to exploring joint initiatives when they make sense for everyone.

📆 Please make sure you’re aligned by:

September 1st, 2026

If you know that you are not currently following the above rules, please start the work to accommodate them. Of course we understand that changes take time, especially when domains and accounts are already in use. That’s why we’re giving all sites a 12-month transition window to update naming where needed.

By September 1st, 2026, we kindly ask that all franchises:

  • Use local-level names in domains and social media accounts
  • Avoid any national or global aliases unless explicitly approved
  • Let us know if you need help or would like to propose a solution for your region
